Chinese Hardware giant Lenovo came to forefront of
world’s business attention when it bought IBM's PC client business in 2005. It bought
IBM's ailing low-end server business in last month.
Now Lenovo has signed an agreement with Google to
buy Motorola Mobility for $2.91bn in a combination of cash and
stock. This would be $9.5bn less than Google paid for the acquisition of
Motorola Mobility in August 2011.
This will give the Chinese vendor a major presence
in the US smartphone market because its bid to acquire Blackberry last year
came to a naught. Motorola is still a strong
brand in the Americas.
